Sergey Vasilyevich Belyaev

He was born on March 17, 1960, in Moscow. After graduating from school, he worked as a draftsman and began his theatrical career as a stagehand at the State Academic Maly Theatre. In the late 1970s, he completed his mandatory military service in the Soviet Army, after which he enrolled in the M.S. Shchepkin Theatre School (now the M.S. Shchepkin Higher Theatre Institute) in the class of M.I. Tsaryov. Two years later, Sergey, along with his classmates Aleksey Serebryakov and Sergey Shkalikov, decided to audition for Oleg Tabakov. Thus, Sergey Vasilyevich Belyaev became a student at GITIS (Oleg Tabakov’s class, graduating in 1986) and one of the first actors and co-founders of the Theater under the Direction of Oleg Tabakov.

In the early years of the Theater-Studio, Sergey participated in almost all of its productions. He played Boatswain Dopekailo in «Surplussed Barrelware» («Zatovarennaya bochkotara»), Surkov in «A Common Story», Mitya Zhuchkov in «Sailor's Silence», Zemlyanika in «The Government Inspector», among others. Starting in 1992, he performed in many productions directed by Vladimir Mashkov, including the role of the Manager in the legendary «No. 13» on the stage of the Chekhov Moscow Art Theatre (MKhT). In 2023, Sergey Vasilyevich transferred from the Moscow Theater of Oleg Tabakov to the troupe of the Chekhov Moscow Art Theatre. He is also a guest artist at the State Theater of Nations. Since the 2000s, he has been actively appearing in film and television projects, with a filmography comprising over 100 titles.

Sergey Vasilyevich Belyaev is not only a talented actor but also an accomplished composer. In 1989, he became a laureate of the «Song of the Year» television competition for the song «Zabava», which he composed to the poetry of Sergei Yesenin and which gained widespread popularity in the performance of Aleksandr Malinin.
