«Black Demon»

Plaster, enamel, 63x45, 2012
Just four poetic lines by the poet Elena Stepanovna Kamyshnaya formed the foundation of the sculptor's complex, philosophical work. The Demon is the personification of universal evil. The subtext woven into the sculptural bas-relief is interpreted through the prism of its influence on our lives. We rarely pause to consider that we are constantly making choices between good and evil, and the Demon is always ready to hook us and pull our strings, as if we were mere marionettes in his theater...

Yet each of us has the strength to resist temptation, for everything is in our own hands. We have the power to uphold our principles, combat indifference, care for our loved ones, and do good for ourselves and those around us. Perhaps then, no one and nothing will be able to force us to live in opposition to Humanity, Goodness, Beauty, and Love.

«Black Demon»
«And the great dragon was cast down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan... he was cast down to the earth... Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and of the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath...»

Revelation, ch. 12, verses 9, 12.
The Black Demon of sweet poisons,
In the velvet of night, in the haze of herbs,
In a thousand faces of silver moons,
In the mortal gasp of broken strings.
